Windows Phone 7 is a platform which, despite being owned by the tech giant Microsoft, is relatively unknown in many parts of the world. When compared against Android and iOS (the leading platforms in the smartphone market), WP7 has not gathered a lot of fans to date. However, the guys over in Redmond are planning to change all that with their new partnership with Nokia. When you get down to it, WP7 is a platform which is rather unique, and does bring something refreshingly new to the table.

So all it needs is a good hardware to go with it, and it just might make it in to the big league. That’s exactly what Nokia is aiming to achieve. They have been granted special rights to tweak the OS for the devices they manufacture for MS, and that’s how the Nokia Lumia series came into being.
There are two phones which have been launched so far under the Lumia nametag, the Lumia 710 and Lumia 800. Despite what the official description of the sets might suggest, there is not a whole lot of difference between the two sets. The most distinguishing feature between the two is that Lumia 800 is aimed to be a high-end device, competing against the likes of the Samsung Galaxy series, while Lumia 710 is more cost-effective.
There are, of course, specification difference between the two devices, but the presence of the same operating system in Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 might make them appear about the same in the eyes of an average user. But things are not always as they seem.
As opposed to the 710’s 5 megapixel camera, the Lumia 800 has an 8MP Carl Zeiss camera. There are some differences in the form factors of the two members of the Lumia family. The Lumia 800 has sharp edges, while 710 is rounded. In most people’s opinion it is advisable to splash your cash on the cheaper version in the series, as the differences between the two are not worth the extra expenditure, unless you are a fan of the amazing 8MP camera offered in the Lumia 800.
